Active Self-Defense Course Outline

Active S-D is a four stage program for women, designed to be taken in sequential order. Taking one is much better than taking none, but we recommend the whole package to allow participants to truly benefit from the experience.  Each course builds upon the previous one, creating a solid base to draw from in a Self-Defense situation. Below is a summary of what one can expect from the courses.

Level 1 - Awareness and Posture:  In course #1 our goal is to instruct the student to become more aware of their personal surroundings and how body posture, voice, and eye contact can make a difference. Our drills are designed to reawaken a person’s natural instincts, as well as focusing their energy with striking drills to hand held pads.

Level 2 - Upper Body:  Students will learn the power they can generate with their palms and elbows, while learning where to target an assailant for maximum effectiveness of their technique. We also practice whole body movements which allow a student to escape from a grasp and then flee to safety.

Level 3 - Lower Body: Students learn how to use their knees and feet to deliver strikes to an attacker. These low level defenses combined with the upper body techniques are devastating to an assailant.  We will also touch on how useful kicks can be from a prone position that not only keep an aggressor at bay but can also deliver serious damage to an assailant.

Level 4 - Light Grappling and Padded Attack:  The final course will deal with ground fighting escapes while combining all former classes, creating a well rounded defensive system. We complete our 4 step program with role playing scenarios involving a padded assailant which challenges and empowers our students to utilize their skills to survive a dangerous encounter.

  • Each seminar will conclude with the breaking of a 1 inch wooden board to test the participant’s technique. This is optional for the student.

  • Each seminar includes an informative handout that enhances the participant’s experience.
